A site-specific temporary installation, with a public performance as well as drawings and polaroids, to cleanse the accumulated sediment of memories Castle Williams preserves stories of personal and social trauma and sadness. It was first and foremost a fortification designed for military purposes. It became an army prison during the American Civil War. During that time, there were many people who endured extreme trauma in war, being imprisoned physically and mentally. It is not only about the personal and social memories related to the history of Governors Island, but also the contemporary issues of NYC. I created a floor for allowing performers to draw images onto the surface with water. When the water slowly evaporates, the drawings disappear and leave the surface blank. Through this ephemeral drawing process, each allow themselves to let go of their mind metaphorically.
